Yoga for the body

Yoga is an indispensable aid to good health and our yoga programme at the Hermitage is under the tutelage of Dr. Sinu Kuriakose (BNYS), who is a graduate 1st class) from Rajiv Gandhi University, Bangalore, where she gained a Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences degree.

Dr. Sinu Kuriakose has been teaching a gentle form of classical hatha yoga for 3 years and her medical background gives her special insight into the curative and restorative values of the practice. She has worked in several of Kerala’s top hospitals and medical clinics including:

  • Samyama Naturopathy and Ayurveda Hospital, Kasargod
  • Government district homeopathy hospital Kanhangad.

Dr. Sinu is also experienced in Holistic Health streams such as Hydrotherapy, Diet and Exercise-based Lifestyle modifications, Acupuncture, Acupressure, Reflexology, Manipulative therapies, Colour therapy, and Ayurveda.

Dr. Sinu Kuriakose offers a complimentary class each morning from 8 – 8.45 am. This is really for beginners, so those of you are practiced in yoga or would like more advanced tuition one-to-one (or in very small groups of two or three maximum) are advised to book a private class with her. These are available at your convenience throughout the day.

All classes take place in our beautiful Patanjali Yoga Hall near the beach.

Yoga for the mind

Dr. Sinu Kuriakose also teaches two types of yoga meditation.

Ashtanga Meditation.

This is a course of minimum 2 and maximum five days, each daily session taking 1 hour.

Each course comprises:

  • Introductory talk
  • Breathing exercises (pranayama)
  • Mental concentration (dhyana)
  • Deep concentration (samadhi)

Pranic Energy Meditation

This is normally a one-hour-long session involving:

  • Introduction to ‘the vital force’ (prana)
  • Focussing on the chakras to energise the body from base to crown.
